Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : PARENTALITE PERINATALITE PERE EDINBURGH POSTNATAL DEPRESSION SCALE FRANCE ROLE DEPRESSION DU POST PARTUM Résumé : Objective : Although fathers are strongly encouraged to get involved in parenthood since pregnancy, there is still little research on the perinatal experience of fatherhood. In order to better understand and appreciate the experience of fathers during the first months after their child's birth, in this study we investigated the links between perceived social support, sense of parental efficacy and postpartum depression. Similar to studies on mothers, several risk factors may increase the fathers’ vulnerability to the development of postpartum depression symptoms. The objective of this study was to determine whether higher levels of perceived social support and sense of parental efficacy are predictive of lower levels of postpartum depression symptoms in a sample of fathers living in France. Material and method : The study population is made up of 376 fathers aged 18 to 59 years old, living in France, and having had a child in the past 6 months. Fathers answered to measures of depression symptoms (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale), perceived social support (Social Provisions Scale), and sense of parental efficacy (Parenting Expectations Survey). Results : In accordance with our hypotheses, fathers who reported the lowest perceptions of their parental efficacy and the lowest levels of perceived social support are those who reported the highest levels of postpartum depression symptoms. Low levels of perceived social support and of sense of parental efficacy predicted higher postpartum depression symptoms in fathers. Multiple linear regression analyses also showed that the oldest fathers in our sample (30 years and more) had the highest depression scores, as well as lower levels of perceived social support and sense of parental efficacy than younger fathers. Primiparous fathers had higher postpartum depression scores and lower parental efficacy scores than multiparous fathers. Conclusion : The considerable involvement of fathers in the study and the large size of our sample are strengths of our study that substantiate the interest of fathers in issues related to their parenthood, well-being and mental health. Our results encourage caregivers to give them more attention and well-tailored support to better respond to their specific needs during the transition to parenthood. Couple and individualized care for each parent should be proposed throughout the perinatal period in order to promote parental social support and sense of parental efficacy, particularly for first-time fathers, and to prevent postpartum disorders. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : PARENTALITE PARENT APPLICATION NUMERIQUE TELEPHONE PORTABLE FRANCE DEVELOPPEMENT DE L'ENFANT APPRENTISSAGE JEU EN LIGNE Résumé : Background : Parenting apps have become increasingly used in parents’ everyday life. This growth offers the possibility for simple, low-cost parenting interventions to a wide range of populations. These apps may contribute to a decrease in social inequality as they promote access to information and health. The content provided by these apps varies from prevention messages and parenting tips to more specific parental guidance and activity suggestions. However, few studies have examined their effect on parenting competence and attitudes. The French Gazouyi app aims to promote parenting skills and to provide parents with the means to play in a positive way with their child. Objective : The aim of this study was to examine, over a period of 3 months, the acceptability, the relevance, and the impact of the use of a digital application by parents of young children aged from birth to 2 years of age. The app proposes developmentally appropriate play activities developed by professionals. Materials and methods : In all, 137 participants were recruited and randomly assigned to an intervention group (n = 60) and a control group (n = 77). Both groups completed the EPAQ, the QAECEP and the KIDI questionnaires at the beginning of the study (T1) and again three months later (T2). EPAQ is designed to evaluate parental awaremess and attitudes about parenthood and child development. The QAECEP measures the parenting sense of competence. The KIDI assesses practical knowledge of parenting styles, early development processes, and behavioral milestones. The intervention group was asked to perform four activities per week on Gazouyi. The app offers different types of play activities in four aspects of child development: language, motor, sensory and social. Results : Overall, no significant differences between the two groups were found. Between T1 and T2, both the intervention and the control group had a significant increase in the QAECEP score. At both assessment points, the number of correct responses to the KIDI and the EPAQ score was high in both groups. However, significant links between scores of parenting competence and some sociodemographic factors were observed. Regression analyses showed that, for frequent users, high scores on the EPAQ were positively predicted for at-term delivery and female children. For infrequent users, high scores on the QAECEP were positively predicted for at-term delivery, infants’ growth, and the level of the fathers’ education. Correct answers on the KIDI were positively predicted for low household incomes, female children, at-term delivery, and nursery childcare. Conclusions : As the first French study to assess the impact of a parenting app and despite its several shortcomings, this study demonstrated that French parents have a strong interest in apps and digital sources of information that may potentially help them in their role as parents. However, further studies should be conducted to improve these apps, to know how parents use them, what effects this type of device can produce, and what improvements could be made. Titre : Benefits and challenges of intergenerational child daycare and senior programs or facilities: A systematic review of the literature [Bienfaits et défis des structures d’accueil ou programmes intergénérationnels pour enfants et personnes âgées : une revue systématique de la littérature] Auteurs : WENDLAND Jaqueline, Auteur ; PARIZET Laure, Auteur Année de publication : 2023 Article en page(s) : 487-494 Note générale : 29 réf. bibliogr./Fig./Tabl. Langues : Français (fre) Mots-clés : RELATION INTERGENERATIONNELLE ENFANT PERSONNE AGEE REVUE DE LA LITTERATURE Résumé : Background : Given the growing number of dependent elderly and of young children who attend day care centers, and in order to foster intergenerational links, intergenerational programs (IG) or facilities have been developed. However, research in this area is still emerging in Europe. Most of the available studies have been carried out in the United States and focus on the content and modalities of IG programs and their impact on elderly and children. Aims and methods : We conducted a systematic review of the literature aimed at presenting a synthesis of the benefits and challenges related to this type of program or facility, both for children and the elderly. This systematic literature review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method and the methodological quality of the selected articles was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). Studies were identified in February 2021 from the PubMed, PsycINFO and Google Scholar databases. Only scientific articles in French and English published between 1986 and 2020 were selected. Other inclusion criteria were: studies with samples of children up to 6 years old and adults at least 65 years old; IG programs with at least one weekly IG meeting. We used the following search combination: intergenerational AND nursing home OR care homes OR long term care OR residential care OR aged care facility OR child care centers OR daycare OR preschool education OR pre-k OR elders OR elderly OR older people OR seniors OR children OR kids OR youth OR child. Results : The benefits seem quite obvious for the elderly in terms of positive emotions, involvement in activities, and self-esteem. Children also benefit from these intergenerational programs, particularly through a better understanding of the abilities and limitations of the elderly, thereby fostering greater empathy towards them. Several IG programs have implemented Montessori activities to bring children and elderly together.Discussion and conclusion : Despite the positive impacts described, to achieve their goals IG programs need to meet several criteria, particularly appropriate planning that takes into account individual needs and skills, and adequate staff training. If IG programs are not sufficiently well-prepared, their impact may be null or even opposite to the expected goals, generating frustration in the elderly or reinforcing stereotypes in the children. Another risk is the infantilization of the elderly, such as involving them in activities that are inappropriate to their age and dignity, or doing things for them rather that promoting their active participation. The selected studies have limitations that should be considered for future research. Most studies were conducted on small samples, which prevents from generalizing their results. In addition, results are often based on qualitative or subjective information, sometimes concerning only part of the participants. Finally, most of the studies are purely descriptive, and therefore did not allow for pre- and/or post-testing. This literature review can guide practitioners and researchers in defining their IG programs and projects protocols.[résumé d'auteur] En ligne : https://www.em-premium.com/article/1592179 Format de la ressource électronique : https://www.em-premium.com/article/1592179 Permalink : https://ch-poitiers.fr/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=121211
