Smoking one tobacco cigarette results in occupation of 80% of ß2*-nAChRs for more than 6 hours. This likely contributes to maintenance of smoking dependence and cessation difficulty. Developing nicotine vaccines could improve treatments. Permalink : https://ch-poitiers.fr/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=78434

Titre : Persistent ß2*-Nicotinic Acetylcholinergic Receptor Dysfunction in Major Depressive Disorder Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Aybala Saricicek ; Irina Esterlis ; Kathleen H. Maloney Année de publication : 2012 Article en page(s) : 851-859 p. Note générale : Reçu le 13 Août 2012 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : acetylcholine tomographe dépression Résumé : Modulation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), specifically those containing the ß2 subunit, may be effective in treating patients with major depressive disorder. Using [123I]5-I-A-85380 single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), the authors studied the availability of ß2-subunit-containing nAChRs (ß2*-nAChRs) in depressed patients. [Thesaurus n°1] SchizophrénieMots-clés : cholinergique recepteur nicotinique Résumé : There is a strong association between cigarette smoking and schizophrenia. Nicotine's actions in the brain are mediated through nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. Those containing a4 and ß2 subunits are the most abundant ones in the brain, have the highest affinity for nicotine, and are critical in mediating nicotine's reinforcing properties. Healthy tobacco smokers have significantly higher levels of ß2*-nicotinic acetylcholine receptors than do nonsmokers. Permalink : https://ch-poitiers.fr/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=74059
