This article looks at two cases of women whose infertility disappeared after adopting a child and examines the psychic processes underlying these events. In the first case, a foreign internal body was symbolised by the adopted child, allowing the pregnancy and the child in the womb to be invested. In the second, the foreign entity was embodied in the biological child and adoption was seen as a safe solution. This will then lead to an exploration of the narcissistic gratification brought by a child resembling self. |
